Indulge in the rich flavor of our Roasted Pasture-Raised Turkey this Christmas. Seasoned with a blend of fresh herbs, salt, and pepper, the turkey is brushed with olive oil, roasted to golden perfection, and basted for succulence. A delightful centerpiece that embodies the natural goodness of our farm's premium, ethically raised poultry.

Ingredients

  • 1 pasture-raised turkey (size according to your needs)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh herbs (such as thyme, rosemary, and sage)
  • Olive oil or melted butter
  • Garlic cloves (optional)

Directions

  1. Preparation:
    • Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
    • Remove the turkey from the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature for about 30 minutes.
  2. Rinse and Pat Dry:
    • Rinse the turkey inside and out with cold water.
    • Pat it dry with paper towels.
  3. Season the Turkey:
    • Liberally season the inside and outside of the turkey with salt and pepper.
    • If desired, place a few garlic cloves and fresh herbs inside the cavity for added flavor.
  4. Truss the Turkey:
    • Truss the turkey by tying the legs together with kitchen twine.
    • This helps the turkey cook evenly.
  5. Brush with Oil or Butter:
    • Brush the entire turkey with olive oil or melted butter.
    • This helps to achieve a crispy and golden skin.
  6. Add Herbs:
    • Place fresh herbs on top of the turkey and tuck some under the skin for extra flavor.
  7. Roasting Time:
    • Place the turkey on a rack in a roasting pan.
    • Roast in the preheated oven. The general rule is about 15 minutes of cooking time per pound, but refer to the specific guidelines for your turkey's size.
  8. Basting:
    • Baste the turkey every 30 minutes with the pan juices. This adds moisture and flavor.
  9. Check Internal Temperature:
    • Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. The turkey is done when it reaches 165°F (74°C) in the thickest part of the thigh.
  10. Resting:
    • Allow the turkey to rest for at least 20-30 minutes before carving. This ensures the juices redistribute, keeping the meat moist.
  11. Carve and Serve:
    • Carve the turkey and serve with your favorite sides.

This simple recipe allows the natural flavor of the pasture-raised turkey to shine. It's a classic and reliable method to create a delicious centerpiece for your Christmas feast.
